Cookies Massachusetts Gary Payton Review

gary payton from cookies massachusetts strain review by toptierterpsma 2Tested at: 17.5% THC Hey what’s up everyone? Happy Friday Jr. and I hope everyone is ready for another review before we roll into the end of the week. Today we have a very special review that I did not think that I would be showcasing so quickly. The biggest reason I say that is the simple fact that I don’t step foot in Massachusetts dispensaries too often. I will be going over the world-renowned Gary Payton strain by Cookies Enterprises that I got from Commcan. Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past 10 years, I don’t think these guys need much introduction with who they are and the impact they have left in the industry especially when it comes to branding new and upcoming strains and profiles. Following the overwhelming poll results from last week, I also picked up The Soap and Doggy Bag strains that they were offering as well. I will also have those two up for review sometime next week. Cookies has made its way to the east coast quickly and has already opening its first store in Worcester, MA as of this past August. Additionally, they are one of the first (if not the first) California-based marijuana brand offered for retail within a Massachusetts dispensary. Let’s waste no more time and get into the facts. Like a good majority of people out there, I do tend to find Cookies’ creativity along with their marketing on their products as a cut above from most. The Gary Payton design is pretty simple for the most part and does feature the 1996 NBA Defensive Player of the Year on the packaging. I was also surprised when I learned that the name was dubbed by Kenny Powers in 2019 when the Cookies Team sat down and tested a bunch of crosses in a pheno hunt. The 20th cross, which featured one between The Y and Snowman leading to its name honoring the famous Sonics player. I think a lot of these cannabis-slash-lifestyle brand companies will appeal to a lot of people and others not so much. My personal shot is (without diving into the politics and Props) is the pricing difference. Why am I going to pay $5 dollars more ($60 an eighth) in Worcester when Commcan offers the same product for $5 less ($10 less if you’re a medical patient)? Additionally, it agitated me to see other brands being sold at their new store in Worcester for $5-10 more you’d pay at another dispensary elsewhere. Personally, this seems like using your established branding to create a money grab scenario when your product is clearly being sold at another establishment for less. I also think Cookies offering rec-only in Worcester (not sure if this is the same for their stores in other states) shows that their platform definitely focuses on the profit side more than their patients. With that being said, shoutout to Commcan for offering Cookies at a discounted rate on the medical side. I feel like this will eventually become a corporate social responsibility that Cookies (and a lot of other companies) will start facing more down the road. Especially in a time where the market has developed a bit on the East Coast, patients over profits is still at the forefront, and people are realizing the significance of researching these companies practices as well as their moral compass before buying. Personally, as long as Cookies keeps marketing themselves as a lavish lifestyle brand as opposed to having a pro-patient mantra than this will increase their longevity. I will have the two additional offerings for them up sometime for you all next week. I enjoyed Gary the same way Powerzzzup has sold it to me the past few years: on the couch watching football on a Sundaze. The high was evenly balance and honestly I’m glad I reserved this for when I did mainly because of the relaxing vibes it passed off. This wasn’t anything that knocked my socks off but definitely had some sedating qualities that made the high enjoyable. I felt some looseness within my joints and also noticed that it aided a pinch nerve that I was experiencing most of the day so I was fond of that. I also felt a mild head high and a bit spaced out on thought as well. These were happy thoughts as I noticed I seemed to be at peace with myself and my surroundings throughout the duration of the high. Additionally, I noticed my perception was pretty sharp throughout the sesh while I was on the Gary Payton. Similar to the smokability, I think that the the high of this strain was pretty moderate. I don’t think I will have to do much to sell this one. Most smokers I know will want to try this based off the reputation and nostalgia it creates off its buzz alone. This will for the criteria for smokers who do enjoy more of a laid back smoke while enjoying some indoor activities. For patients, this will certainty will take the edge off on a lot of pain-related illness. Even if your someone who works in labor or does any rigorous physical activity, this strain will provide the needed comfort to take the edge off afterwards. It’s pretty simple at the end of the day, if you are a connoisseur, terp hunter or above-avid level smokers you probably will end up trying this strain at least once. When I sparked up the Gary Payton in an organic RAW, the first quarter of the joint really resembled the nose when opening up the the pack. Those distinct floral and spice terps hit head on. I also discovered some hints of musty gas as well during the beginning stages of the sesh. On the way out, the spiciness became a little more bitter and almost resembled a peppery diesel taste. From about a quarter of the way to about half way, I noticed a bit of change in the terp profile as those floral terps became a little more citrus and diesel in the middle of the sesh. The flavor on the Gary Payton had to be its most distinct feature as I was pulled everywhere from diesel citrus pine to creamy spice at some points which, personally, I thought highlighted the sesh. The pulls were moderately gassy throughout but they certainly heightened during the period mentioned before. The ash produced was a little inconsistent and burned a salt and pepper colored ash which changed between different shades of gray throughout the sesh. There still was a thick, oily res drip formed around the perimeter of the joint. The burn on it was fair but did burn a bit quicker than I hoped for which was a result of the nugs being dried out upon opening. Overall, I think the smokability of the Gary P was right around expectation and was the most enjoyable part of the total experience. When I peeled off the seal and opened up the pacakaging, there was a moderate funk of floral and spice as well as some hints of earth and citrus that followed. I wouldn’t say the nose was anything overwhelming but had a nice overall bag appeal. When poking your head in the nugs looked extremely aesthetic. However, when I took some out of the bag I was a little disappointed to see that they were a bit weathered and crunchy as well as being a bit on the smaller side. Personally, I don’t care what the circumstance is, if your paying $50 on the medical side or $55 (plus tax) on the rec side the nugs you receive should be fresh and ready to go. I was also surprised to see that this was just packaged on 11-27-21 which was only a couple weeks ago. Although a bit dehydrated, the shades of darker and lighter purple and green definitely caught the eye. The triches stood out on this one and a decent amount of pistils were scattered across the structure of the Gary Payton. As you would expect, the yield on the breakup was a little disheartening considering that the buds pretty much crumbled into dust when rubbing them between my fingers. Even though I did have to add a little more to the joint to compensate filling it up correct, I still had high hopes this batch of Gary would bring the heat
