Cultivar Review: Headlamp by Rarebreed Humboldt

One of the things I got to try at Cannifest was the Headlamp from Rarebreed Humboldt. While this isn’t necessarily like one of the many things that Brad has bred – I hear it is a soon to be coveted cut that I’m honored to be able to check out.

Headlamp Cannabis Cultivar (“Strain”) Review

headlamp by rarebreed humboldt strain review by caleb chen

My first thought on the bagpop was woody, GASSY, and damn did my cabin in the woods sprout a gas leak? I thought I was off grid!!! This isn’t a smell that you can easily find at a dispensary nowadays, that’s for sure. While the gassiness faded for me after rough handling, the earth notes developed. Terran power!

I was gleeful when I got to it, and set aside a day for the one nug that I had, and set aside another little bit to share with a gas lover I know. The taste of the vapor and the smoke is spicy, and zingy in a pine stick chew kinda way. I soon felt like I had muddled my way into a muddy delight.

The high slows me down in my head like every thought is getting chopped and screwed. My brain gets sticky like molasses, or the trikes on this here flower.

The look is what the kids call old school (not like landrace old school but heirloom old school) the structure is… a lil foxtaily which i frankly love. this plant saw the sun and each part that could, reached! It’s always refreshing to see real cannabis bud structures, not just the same old machine trimmed literally-looks-like-runtz-or-nerdz-candy type structure: stacks on stacks on stacks. The oil also stacks and stacks and stacks. This is the type of joint that leaves a completely black roach, or if it doesn’t, you’re wiping you’re lips cuz of the resin.

I hear there is some good yield on this plant. Its first season on the market will dictate if the buyers like it as much as the growers do. If I had to guess? I’d say it will. There’s enough of the headband/original diesel earthy mustiness and sharp gassiness to be familiar and nostalgic to lovers of headband, diesel, or og. It might not be complete nose hair burning level, but it’s sure more gas than that floral “gas” from candygasland.

Big Ups to the headlamp in these dark times. May it keep y’all safe until the sun rises.
