Hash Rosin Review: Peach Marmalade by Hidden Forest Farms
Hidden Forest Farms
Live Hash Rosin | Peach Marmalade
(Moroccan Peaches + Candied Oranges + Papaya)
Maine is home to some of the best farmers and most talented hash makers in the country. When my wife and I decided to move up north to spend some time in New England, I was stoked. I was also very excited sample the work from so many of these talented people. That being said, you’ll be seeing quite a few reviews from Maine coming up. Hidden Forest Farms had been on my list of hash makers to try for quite some time. They are DEM Pure certified, and I was excited to grab this jar on a fresh drop out.
If you’re not familiar, with DEM pure certifications, i’ll give you the low down real quick. DEM stands for “Dragonfly Earth Medicine”, and they certify regenerative farms that grow and process the cleanest, and highest quality medicine while also acting as a steward for the land, plants, and patients that they serve. Here is a full list of standards that they use to decide if a farm can obtain their certification. With that out of the way lets talk about this jar.
This jar of Peach Marmalade is a blend of Moroccan Peaches, Candied Oranges, and Papaya. When making hash, you can have a cross, or a blend. A cross is when two plants are bred together, and the hash is made from that single cultivar. But a blend is when the hash from two different cultivars are blended together to create an intentionally curated flavor profile. Typically, blends will be denoted by a ‘+’ in between the cultivar names, and crosses will be denoted by an ‘X’ in between cultivar names. I have found that some people turn their nose up at blends, which I personally don’t agree with, but that is an article for another day I suppose. Now, lets crack open this jar, and get into this review!
Appearance and Consistency: 8.8
This rosin had a nice pale golden color, with a classic terpy and soft badder consistency that I love. When I whipped it up, it started to sweat a little more. It was not overly saucy, was very easy to handle, and very stable. It kept its consistency very well throughout its life.
Aroma: 9.1
When I cracked open the jar I got huge bold notes of papaya and sweet tropical front upfront. After letting the jar breath for a short while, it balanced out very nicely, and some more peachy notes came through, with some sweet and incredibly subtle citrus notes on the back end. With how bold the papaya notes were at first, I was really surprised and quite happy with how it balanced out. I do sometimes find that these very tropical flavor profiles can be lacking depth and complexity, so I am happy to report that this was not the case.
Flavor: 8.9
Translation of aroma to taste was very accurate on this one. Again, big sweet papaya notes upfront, with some more general tropical fruit undertones on the finish. A bit less complexity and balance came through than the aroma, but it was still balanced enough to not be overwhelming with the papaya flavors. The aftertaste was very enjoyable, and stuck around quitewell. The vapor was quite smooth, and did not cause any abnormal coughing or irritation on my throat or lungs.
Effects: N/A
As always, this section is very subjective. I had very nice happy, uplifting, and relaxing effects. Great for daytime relaxation or medicating, but still functional. It hit nicely, and the effects had a very decent length.
Overall: 8.9
I really enjoyed this jar of Peach Marmalade, and was very happy to try Hidden Forest. The jar certainly did not last long, as it paired well with sunny days on the porch here at the lake. Regardless of how good it was, it’s great to know that you’re getting clean hash, that gives back to the land it was grown on. I really value transparency in this industry, and that’s what any DEM Pure certified farm gives me as a consumer.
