Having relatively enjoyed the last Tenco’s Black Cod Sample Batch from 2024, I was interested to see if this more recent 2025 batch had improved. With the branding now arriving in its own personalised Black Cod jars. Upon opening I instantly received memorable musky notes infused with fuel, sherbet, menthol and cream, alongside a subdued light candy essence, introducing a satisfying level of sweet cherries alongside refreshing notes of citrus. The buds were of a medium density and had a hybrid structure. They were a shade of dark to medium green underneath a layer of dark purple, alongside minimal rustic pistils and showered in gleaming trichomes.
Upon inhaling, my palate was overcome by notes translating from the smell, delivering a dominant musky and floral Sherbet influenced earthiness with traits of cream and fuel, complemented by notes of lightly sweetened candy and traits of hazelnut from its Gelato lineage. The taste of this musky creamy and mildy sweet Sherbet was retained on my tastebuds upon exhaling. The joint produced ash being a shade of medium to light grey, alongside an instantaneous oozing resinous oil ring. It smoked both smooth and tasted clean. To conclude, I ultimately found the genetics of Black Cod to complement each other well, with the Sherbet lineage remaining more dominant, as with the last batch.
Black Cod delivered a unique taste none the less and smoked fairly well. With some further dialling in required, Black Cod will remain a distinctive staple of Tenco’s ever expanding lineup.
