Strain Review: Proper Z by Proper Reserve

With Proper Z originating from probably the leading connoisseurs and influencers in smoking etiquette, as well as maintaining stringent reviewing processes themselves, I was extremely excited to get my hands on their rendition of the infamous Zkittles, and put their “but how does it smoke?” to test. Upon opening I instantly received a rush of extremely sweet and floral notes, displaying an essence of papaya and cherries alongside a refreshingly sharp grapefruit backend. This inviting sweetness described was complemented by creamy and fizzy undertones, smelling reminiscent of a floral cream soda infused with grapefruit. As a reference, although difficult to notice, the smell is more reminiscent of Superdope’s Mega Blue Z in comparison to an Original Z living soil cut. The buds were attractive, having a medium to hard density, having a boulder structure, being a shade of light green, alongside short light coloured rustic pistils, and home to a universe of trichomes. Upon inhaling, my palate was instantly overcome by notes translating from the smell, delivering a dominating zesty grapefruit essence with partial fizzy traits, complemented by sweetened cream and lighter than usual cherries and grape undertones. Through combustion, floral notes begin to develop alongside a partial spicy backend, with the grape taste beginning to dissipate ever so slightly. This infusion of flavours were retained on my tastebuds upon exhaling. The joint produced ash being a shade of extremely light silver, alongside an instantaneous dripping and oozing resinous oil ring, smoking both smooth and tasting clean. So, “how does it smoke?” Although I had slightly higher expectations for Proper Z, it still ticked most boxes and was ultimately a nice smoking Zkittles. With a little further dialling in, Proper Z can be perfected and easily be one of the best Z’s on the market.
