Strain Review: Zkittlez OG by UpNorth

Aroma: This one has a lot characteristics from both parents but this first thing I smell in the is that lemon pledge OG funk from the SFV. It’s unmistakable and just one of my favorite smells. The zkittles pokes through with grapefruit sour candied limes and sugar. Underneath the fruity sweetness there’s also a sourness accompanied with some fresh pinene scents. It’s a pretty well rounded aroma in my opinion. It’s a proper representation of both terpene profiles in the parentage.
Appearance: Most Upnorth eighths that I’ve got consist of one giant top and a few lowers. This one was no different. The top I have is just beautiful. Completely encrusted in a thick blanket of resin it shines in the light with lime green coloration with darker olive hues tucked away in little spots to give a beautiful contrast. The structure is kind of non uniform. No foxtails just kind of weird pods. It has a OG skeleton with a zkittley weirdness to it if that makes sense.
Taste/Smokeability: The taste is kind of the opposite of the smell only in order of sequence. It feels like the zkittles comes through more at first with a diverse fruity bouquet such as key limes, grapefruit, and mangoes. It’s accompanied with a sour candied sweetness. That pairs with some floral notes as well. Then it turns into more of a subtle piney OG funk with a bit of the lemon at the end. It’s there just not front and center. The smoke on this is pretty expansive which is typical of most OG’s I’ve tried over the years. It’s not really harsh but it’s just something I’d approach with more weariness than some of the more candy strains. The ash was mostly white and had a pretty drippy oil ring on the J. I enjoyed the flavor on this one I just was expected more OG but I think the zkittles was a good 75% of the flavor.

Effect: This is very strong just like everything I like. This is more versatile and than a lot of other strains I usually smoke. It’s cerebral and stimulating while also being relaxing and chill. Like I have the energy and drive to cook and do household chores but I can just as easily chill on a catch and zone out to some music or a book. I don’t know if I would use it for sleep necessarily but it’s not one of those espresso like sativas that zap ya.
I really enjoy this type of effect especially on the weekend because it enables me to get stuff done while also having the ability to enjoy the few quiet moments in my household.
Overall: I’m always impressed with Upnorth’s quality control one thing I’ve noticed though is they consistently have some of the highest terpene levels I’ve seen in indoor flower on the rec market. I don’t know their process but it obviously works well. Till next time everyone. 🤙
