Everyone knows that Elon Musk smoked weed with Joe Rogan on camera – and got in trouble. But how much trouble did Elon get in for smoking? Turns out, he had to submit to random drug tests for an entire year because of that single puff. Not only did Mr. Musk have to do it, but so did every other employee at SpaceX. That’s over half a million drug tests beause of a single puff of cannabis. Elon Musk made a surprise visit on The Nelk Boys podcast Full Send on August 4th, 2022 and talked about a wide variety of topics – including the consequences of blazing up with Joe Rogan on the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) back in September 2018. Years later, we finally know what happened afterwards and why.

What happened to Elon Musk after smoking on JRE

Elon Musk’s brief smoke sesh on the JRE caused every SpaceX employee to get randomly drug tested for a year. This was due to the SpaceX holding federal contracts requiring anyone involved with said contracts to hold security clearance – where smoking the herb is still a no no due to cannabis’s schedule 1 status at a federal level. That is a heavy punishment for one puff. According to Teslarati, back in 2018, SpaceX had at least 5000 employees. Let’s assume that random drug testing occured every month – that’s over half a million drug tests as the result of one puff of the blunt. The federal government doesn’t joke around sometimes. The irony is palpable. Elon Musk also mentioned that he doesn’t like weed because he feels it isn’t productive. Man, I have some cultivars I’d love to show him.
