A return to what once was: first Legends of Legacy Marketplace is in the books

The Soil King Community Marketplace, a monthly event in Cloverdale, CA, had its first launch event this past weekend. The Soil King Garden Center got a makeover and is now called the Soil King Community Marketplace, Educational Center. Cloverdale is conveniently positioned between the Bay Area and the Emerald Triangle and the Soil King Center is a perfect location to gather the California cannabis industry on a monthly basis. Some of the organizers behind January’s event Jerry’s Seed Swap, Mama K International and Ital Foundation came together with The Soil King and new volunteers such as Rasufa to bring the Legends of Legacy Marketplace to fruition. Many of the same vendors such as Endo Industries, Cannabis Horticulture Association, and Lempire Seeds made a return. I made it in time for the private bbq the night before which was well attended. Taste budz 707 had vegan food while Miles held it down with a wild boar stew. You could chill in the VIP lounge – which just days before was a fully stocked storefront – or out back. Everyone was full and both the music and everyone’s personal headstashes were loud.  I had a great time seeing familiar faces and meeting new people.

First Legends of Legacy Marketplace in the books

Underground cannabis events have been a thing since before I was born. What stands out about the current crop of available cannabis industry events is that the best one are still often underground… and the above ground ones are kind of boring. Whether it’s cannabis events thatRecreational market sales took place through the EmeraldRoad website via Meadow. The following brands were in attendance in the 21+ only section of the Marketplace to talk about their goods. Anyone interested in buying, went across the street to get delivery fulfilled by the licensed delivery service. Props to the brands that came out to the inaugural Legends of Legacy Marketplace Mendo Dope Boys performance was dope. It was an intimate experience and they got the crowd going. Did you know that I know that you know that I like to smoke? 707 did indeed have the smoke.

Legends of Legacy Marketplace Breeder’s Panel

Legends of Legacy Marketplace Recap

Volunteers and attendees came from far and wide around the Emerald Triangle to join in the event.  NubsFarm came from states away! Even saw Jeordin from Humboldt High Chair and Big Jake of the Skunk Train pull up. I met so many new breeders that showed me unique things that I internally wept at the absolute relative lack of diversity in every single recreational market where the cannabis industry had quote unquote “made it.” It’s hard to capture the magic that occurs thanks to events like this, but I’ll try with some of my highlights. Aili Seeds had landrace crosses that deserve attention and The Seedery had the most unique thing I had ever seen come off the hill – a Filipino landrace cross and that was my omg-I-must seed purchase. I was gifted Thai landrace seeds by a reader, to whom I am grateful because who knew anyone even read this stuff. Ran into the Lumpy’s Flowers crew and mentioned I liked Apple Fritter – ended up with a handroll of it. Saving it for a special occasion because dayum! I got to smoke flower of the Robert’s Creek Congolese which Nate from Higher Heights had crossed with Super Silver Haze. In fact he let me try two phenos of that super congolese haze. Those are just adjectives, not a name. African Dream #2 from Heal Thyself Gardens hit me right in the orange feels with sweet orange peels which lead to a discussion on the differences/similarities between carbonated, sharp, tart, and bubbly terps. The two are perfect examples of cultivars that aren’t likely to be found in dispensaries anytime soon and can only be whiffed at community events like this. Seeds were swapped, legends were told, connections were made, legacy was preserved. This event was a beacon of hope in an otherwise dismal time for the cannabis industry. All throughout the event, the common refrain was that it’s nice that events are happening again, and that next time will be even better. Stay tuned to know when that next time is.
