Why Do I Get The Munchies?

Any experienced stoner could tell you that weed and munchies go hand in hand. 🍔🍟😍 But did you know that there is a scientific explanation as to why?

Why do I get the munchies?

According to researchers from Yale and the university of Leipzig in Germany, cannabinoids such as THC have the ability to basically scramble neurons in the hypothalamus region of our brain, known as POMCs. The POMCs are pathways that control fullness. When exposed to cannabis, the POMCs in mice became “more turned on.” Normally, the POMCs release an endorphine that tells our brains to stop eating, but when activated by THC, they created a different chemical: beta-endorphins, which stimulate appetite and promote cravings. In several other studies, cannabis and THC derived medicines have proven valuable in aiding in the rehabilitation of those who suffer from eating disorders such as anorexia, cachexia (a cancer symptom) and even some forms of bulimia.
