Cultivar Review: Bubba Kush by Bronson Farms
Bubba Kush
Cultivated by: Bronsonfarms
Lineage: Matt Berger from CO is the person who bred this strain back in 1997. It is said to be An Afghani X OG cross. Others have said that afghani was actually NL and Iām inclined to believe them based on this profile.
Harvest date: late August 2024
Bronson Farms Bubba Kush Cannabis Cultivar (“Strain”) Review
Appearance: I have a big jar of this flower so I got a bunch of beautiful chunky tops. Typical of bubba this has really dense flower clusters that are just absolutely clustered with resin sticking to every crevice. It is some beautiful green bud! The resin is so thick it almost has a silvery shine to it that makes it look borderline intimidating. The pistils are a rusty red color that gives a stark contrast to the green flower. A lot of the bigger nugs are Christmas tree shaped and the break down by hand pretty easily into a fluffy mass with the resin glands feeling gritty between my finger tips.
Aroma: You canāt fake the funk with this one. Iāll you know bubba itās a pretty unmistakable scent. To me it expresses as dense sugar-pine forest that was somehow coated in Hersheyās chocolate. Thereās almost a mocha type essence to it as well that comes through. Itās accented by this spice that reminds me of something earthy and rich like a deep loamy soil where coca plants have been grown. Itās pretty darn unique. Any older person like myself whoās has this in years past knows exactly how this plant should show up and this is a spot on example of how it should smell.
Taste/smokeability: It translates damn near perfectly from nose to taste. It comes through really strong with a layered herbal/piney flavor that has a bit of a spicy musk to it. That then transitions into more of a smooth mocha chocolate āļø š« finish. I rolled two joints of this so far and each of them was super smooth and flavorful right down to the end. The ash was probably about an 8/10 on the whiteness. I tried to make myself cough with this flower and it only happened once. Pretty minimal lung expansion with this flower.
Effect: This is probably one of the most sedating Indicas of all time. It is not what I would call a āfunctionalā cultivar. Iād say itās the cannabis equivalent to an opiate almost. After two snaps I felt this heavy blanket of relaxation envelope me completely. Thought processes slow to a grinding halt and I just melt away into whatever I happen to be sitting in. The first day I got it I smoked enough to want take a nap at like 4pm. š This strain is great for pre sleep or post thanksgiving meal lounging. All I want to do with this one is sleep and eat. Definitely a great thing to use for people experiencing pain decreased appetite or insomnia. This gal has legs too. About 2 hours is when I feel its clutches start to dissipate.
Overall: I am super grateful and honored to be able to try an old favorite of mine grown by such a talented cultivator. The man who grew this told me he started growing it again because someone told him that Bubba wasnāt fire. Well I think we can all agree that person was a mega weenie and that this flower can and does stand up to modern competition. It may not be candy, but it is damn good. If you enjoy a great representation of a classic strain hit up Bronsonfarms for some gems.
