Strain Review: Obama Kush by Trichome Farms

The bag appeal on Obama Kush is off the charts. The first thing that pops out about the visual is the vivid purple coloration and insane trichome frosting. Beautiful, evocative shades of purple ranging from bright lilac to dark violet poke out in between a heavy mantle of shimmering crystals. Tawny-orange pistils can be seen reaching straight out from the buds all over, and small dots of dark green leafage hide infrequently in several places across the surface. Overall, this is a strikingly gorgeous flower 😍
The nose on Obama Kush is excellent. It’s woody, earthy, and kushy. The woody/earthy side of the profile is skunky, pungent, and musty, while the kushy side of the profile is fresh, piney, and slightly sour with subtle notes of sweet citrus and fuel. It creates a satisfying and complex aromatic combination. Breaking open nugs releases a distinctly fragrant sweet and sour kush aroma. Overall, the smell reminds me of sandalwood and cologne dunked in sweet diesel ⛽️
The flavor on the Obama Kush is terrific. The smell translates into the taste fairly consistently, with the kush taking over as the primary driver of flavor. It still has that skunky, earthy profile, but the kush flavoring gets stronger as the joint burns down, enhancing all those rich piney, fuel, and slightly sweet and sour citrus notes. The cultivar leaves a soft, kushy taste on the tongue that slowly gives way to a strong earthy aftertaste 🌲
The Obama Kush has a remarkably robust high. I felt a nice pleasantness in my head with an overall euphoric feeling. My shoulders felt relaxed, and I could pick up on some subtle body feelings. The nugs are soft, not sticky, and create a minor amount of kief when ground up. It burns perfectly and is an exceptionally smooth smoke 😶🌫️
All in all, the Obama Kush is top-notch. It not only checks the boxes, this is probably the best Obama Kush I’ve ever had. I conceptualize this cultivar as an, “oldie but goodie,” that’s still worth giving consideration to. Once again, Trichome Farms takes a strain I’m familiar with and gives me one of the best versions of it I’ve ever had 🔥
