Ahhhh cottonmouth – why do I get cottonmouth when I get high? Many of us veteran cannaseurers can attest to experiencing this one annoying side effect of our favorite plant. But there’s actually alot more to the reason why you might experience it, besides just dryness from smoking!

Why do I always get cottonmouth when I get high?

As I’ve talked about earlier, the human body is made up of a system of cannabinoid receptors called the endocannabinoid (endo-canna-bin-oid) system. These receptors can be acted upon through, you guessed it, using cannabis! 🌿 💨 Since cannabinoid receptors are found in many parts throughout the body, it’s no surprise that researchers discovered clusters of them in the submandibular glands (under the tongue, below the jaw.) When influenced by THC, the glands can stop receiving messages from our brain that stimulate the salivary response, thus decreasing our saliva production! There isn’t one defined “cure” for cottonmouth, but, there are definitely some things you can try in order to alleviate the effect!

How do you cure cottonmouth?

Some of my favorite cottonmouth treats are chewing gum, which helps stimulate the salivary response, water (lots and lots of water), and cough drops, which are specifically designed to add a coating to dry areas in your mouth/throat. Try to avoid beverages with a lot of caffeine like coffee, tea, and some sodas, as caffeine can actually worsen the situation. ☕🚫 Hit up @thecannaartist for great cannabis artwork!
