Strain Review: Layer Cake by Louis Vuchron

Layer Cake has ridiculous visual appeal. Its massive, beautiful colas are dense and spear-shaped with a gnarly composition of barbed leafage, auburn pistils, and profuse trichrome frosting. In terms of coloration, the buds are mostly white/silver from a hefty mantle of trichomes, but a gorgeous gradient of greens and some darker plum leafage can be seen under the crystalline covering 😍
The smell on the Layer Cake is intricate, aromatic, and thoroughly entrancing. This cake has so many layers that it’s hard to track what the primary profile actually is. I pick up on notes of hefty diesel, onion, garlic, herbal and skunky kush, sweet cream, fermented fruit, and even a little nuttiness. As I was taking notes on this review, I found myself basically making a laundry list of different profiles. Interestingly, I felt like the profile shifted, as I picked up on different notes in varying intensity every time I opened the jar 🤤
The flavor on the Layer Cake translates effectively from the scent. It has a sour and spicy diesel forward with notes of kush, skunk, onion, and herbs. The flower has a seasoned funk to it that is prominent on the exhale, however it also has sweet, doughy terps that tickle the tongue and leave a sweetened aftertaste. Overall, the cultivar is funky, skunky, and savory, but it has a creamy sweet undercurrent that creates an exhilarating juxtaposition when smoking 👅
The high on the Layer Cake is phenomenal. It has a pleasurable head high with soothing cognitive euphoria, as well as some significant body relaxation in the neck, shoulders, and back. The high just fits like a glove and feels delightful above all. The flower is an outstandingly clean and smooth smoke and it burns perfectly all the way down. The flower is soft to the touch but increasingly sticky as it’s broken up. It creates a minor amount of kief when ground 😶🌫️
All in all, Layer Cake is astounding. It has beautiful bag appeal, a unique terpene profile, and a satisfying high. This is the first flower I’ve tried from @louisvuchron.pdx but I’ll definitely be checking out more 🔥
