FAQ

How long does cannabis stay in your system?

Ahhh it’s the age old question regarding the ability to pass a drug screening. 😉 Is there an answer? The research says: yes!….and no…. 🤷‍♂️

How long does cannabis stay in your system?

According to the Journal of analytical toxicology, there are several factors that come into play when looking at THC elimination from our bodies: dosages, how you used the cannabis, hydration levels, metabolism, and excretion rate (how often you’re taking a 💩). This study observed 60 cannabis users over a course of 28 days. They found that those who used cannabis frequently, experienced a longer time eliminating THC from their systems (about 4-6 weeks) than those who did not regularly consume (2-4 days). However, this is where it gets tricky. Since everybody is different, its difficult to determine a precise rate at which THC is expelled. While a new user could get it out rather quickly, there’s also a chance that it could stick around, due to BMI (body mass index).

Why does THC stay in your system longer if you have more fat?

THC is a compound that is attracted to fatty tissues, so naturally, somebody with a larger mass has a higher chance of THC lingering in their blood. Those of us who have been using cannabis for years, may have a harder time expelling THC as well due to how long it’s been able to bind deep into our receptors, with some reports showing THC expulsion rates up to 90 days after abstinence. A couple tricks I try to recommend to people looking for a quicker way to get the THC out are: water (lots of it), coffee, juice cleanses, and adequate exercise! As cannabis research evolves, we’ll be able to access even more definitive answers, and hopefully one that will be the end all be all to this frequently asked question!
