Black Lime Special Reserve Cannabis Cultivar (Strain) Review

Hey what’s up everyone? I have another review to cover that I received at Terptown Throwdown a month back. I thought I would air out at least a few reviews while on vacation but, naturally, got a little sidetracked with all the fun and festivities. This officially marks the first review for year 2 and will feature the Black Lime Special Reserve cultivated by Headie Eddie’s Growshow of True Collective 413. Additionally, this marks the first review for Headie Eddie and an unplanned one at that. After showing an exceptional amount of enthusiasm about the review page when we first met at Terptown, I swung by his table table to see what was up for offering. While he raved that his Purple Punch was arguably his most dialed in cultivar, I passed since I am not a personal fan of punch strains. Instead, I went with his Black Lime Special Reserve which features a cross between Northern Lights, Purple Kush and Chemdawg Special Reserve. Being that I’ve never tried nor heard of this strain made it an effortless pick. I don’t have too much more to elaborate on prior to the experience but was certainly interested to see what this had in store. Let’s waste no more time and get into the facts! When I received the Black Lime Special Reserve, Headie Eddie gave it to me in a traditional ziplock bag. No fancy gimmicks included with the packaging for this one. When I first opened up the seal on the baggy, my first impression of the nose was one large earthy overtone. However, as I inched closer into the bag, I picked up on combination of peppery floral with sweet and skunky undertones bringing out somewhat of a peculiar nose. Consisting of a pale to like green complexion to go along underrated trichrome coverage, this cultivar didn’t have the most fashionable appearance I’ve ever come across but was doable enough. Under the mag jar, this cultivar did show more prominent as the sparkling triche coverage as well as spotted purple hues came to light. This is not ignore the pistils that twisted and turned throughout the entire structure. I also wasn’t that impressed by the nug selection in the quarter as it was mainly made up of smalls that crumbled apart when rubbed together between my fingers. I could tell some of the nugs had once prominent spear-like colas but the size just wasn’t there to match. Nonetheless, they did leave a very sticky residue on the tips of my fingers after breaking down. I also noticed, at this point, a citrusy chem smell starting to developed which included semi-rancid skunk undertones making the cultivar more offensive than when in solid form. As mentioned above, there wasn’t any need for a grinder as this broke into smithereens by hand. Pressing my nose into the broken down particles helped me hone in on a distinctive lime smell underneath the layers of citrus and chem. Additionally, I picked up on those same lime terps through the dry pull that tended to compliment the floral and cashew back end drawn in. When I sparked the Black Lime Special Reserve in and Organic RAW, I instantly felt myself pulling in a peppery citrus concoction upon the initial inhales. There were additional terps of rose petals and limes that synced in well giving each pull a sweet taste from the start. On the way out, I retained the peppery terps caught while pulling the smoke in, exhibiting a sweet and tangy taste numbing my tongue. Early on, the flavor took me by surprise making up for the lack of appearance on the front end. As I moved along in the sesh, the peppery taste remained present as each pull became a little gassier than the last. A little after 1/4 in, but the nearing the halfway mark, I began letting in sweet skunky terps that gave off a sourish chem on the follow through. These weren’t pressuresome to the point of coughing, however, my eyes did feel a bit weighted. Not to mention, the sweet and sour notes fed off savory lemon lime terps that leaned lime. The burn on the Black Lime was decent but resulted in a salt and pepper ash with white interior. Sporting a hefty terp ring, tiny oil bubbles formed near the top of the joint the further through the sesh I got. Once I got deeper into the second half of the sesh I noticed the floral terps experienced earlier on start to pick up again. This complimented the sweet pepper (borderline lemon pepper at this stage) that held true down to the stem. The joint burned a little more vigorously through the final stages of the sesh but I was able to pick up a sweet, cheesy taste proceeding most exhales. Other than that, I did pick up on additional notes of citrus which became a bit more bitter leaving me with a lingering taste of zesty lemons after certain pulls. I personally thought between the smokability and terp profile, the smoke on this was the most dominant feature by far. Potency-wise, I didn’t think this was the strongest stuff I’ve ever come across but the taste/burn left my mouth watery throughout. The onset of medicinal effects crept up on me a little quicker than I anticipated. The Black Lime Special Reserve initially gave me a soothing feel that relaxed my entire upper body and, within 15-20 minutes, dispersed into my legs giving me an all-around body high. Juxtaposed, I did feel a bit of spark of energy within that aided my heightened perception of things around me. I found myself developing acute attention to detail as well. I remember watching some preseason football while indulging in this and noticed myself picking up on certain plays I otherwise wouldn’t have. The muscle/joint relief this cultivar put out was adequate making it ideal to sesh with after my running ball. Within 30 minutes to an hour or the onset of effects my increased attention span endured as I started to ooze with self-confidence. I must say that it was tough shaking a bad mood with this one given how cheery I became over time. Despite some quality effects, the high came and went about a little over an hour or so leaving me somewhat disappointed at the longevity. All in all, the Black Lime packed features ideal to its profile; however, I felt like the high could’ve lasted a little longer for my liking. After having a chance to try the Black Lime Special Reserve cultivated by Headie Eddie, as well as my first offering by his team, I thought there were areas where this cultivar thrived and lacked. To start off, while the nose was delectable I didn’t think the smalls, or appearance, did this cultivar too much justice. Still, I think if you can get over that blemish, the sweet notes of peppery citrus have potential to draw you in. I do believe if you are a fan of sweeter and gassier cultivars this will fit the bill. Upon trying this, I have to say the terp profile stood out the most and maintained a solid mixture of peppery, citrusy lemon/lime, and sweet floral notes. On the contrary, I thought the medicinal effects this one put out fell short of expectations. Personally, I love the way it made me felt when the effects were present although the potency made them short-lived. Nonethless, I still feel they can be beneficial to those seeking to be put in a peaceful state after a long day. Additionally, I think it will remedy those suffering through any type of chronic pain, stress, joint/muscle pain, and other related illnesses. Even though this wasn’t my favorite experience in recent memory I still want to thank Headie Eddie and True Craft Collective 413 for the extremely warm reception at Terptown last month. I would definitely like to see more from them down the road and may take them up on their Purple Punch next time around!
