There are not enough women in cannabis, full stop. Though we revere female plants for their resin, it’s still very much a “boys’ club” from the grow room to the boardroom. As such, it is vital that we support women-owned and women-operated businesses, particularly when they produce that fye. One sparkling example is Spiral Light Farm, who works with both known and private growers to produce stunning melts, rosin, and more.

I was first introduced to Spiral Light via the Hash Calendar Club’s Christmas box, where her Lemon Sour Diesel cold cure stood out prominently for its clean, creamy diesel flavor with a slight lemon rind, as well as for its sharply invigorating caricature-of-a-sativa effects. Impressed by such an immaculately preserved and translated classic Sour profile, I found myself seeking more, and more I got. For two consecutive limited drops, fortune favored the hash-hungry, delivering a sumptuous combination platter.

Magical Melts

Also known as The Hash Fairy, Spiral caters to heads by offering stellar bubble hash alongside her more popular rosin rather than pressing it all. The three melts I tried all clocked in at the five-star mark, requiring several swabs’ worth of cleanup, but each provided rare clarity of flavor and unmuddled effects. Starting with one of the staples of Spiral’s cold room, Poisoned Apple, this highly protected genetic yields bright notes of green apple, backed by an exotic herbal blend of jasmine anise, and wild mint. The strain’s liveliness doesn’t stop at the palate, either, pulling the ripcord on mood and mental focus. In cold cure and disposable pod forms, Poisoned Apple maintained its character like Daniel Day Lewis preparing for an Oscar-worthy role.

Papaya Bomb was a great complement, with true-to-life Papaya fruit flavor. Not too sweet, not too funky, but a realistic and refreshing combination, the effect of this hash was similarly balanced. The calm, affable yet alert state that followed a dab would be equally suitable for yoga, nature walks, gaming sessions, or catching up with friends.

Finally, the Kush & Creme melt packed a serious punch, hidden behind a deceptively docile earthy-floral profile. A stony buzz creeps up in a fairly quick onset, significantly raising the likelihood of a nap if ambient conditions are comfortable enough. Around 465F, this greasy mass of trichomes hits like a sip of spring water.

Respect the Rosin

Melt is always marvelous, but right now, rosin reigns. Whether you prefer fresh press or cold cure, Spiral Light has the bases covered. The Mother’s Milk fresh press resembled virgin tree sap in its amber color and dense, resinous consistency. Despite visible air bubbles in the translucent rosin, it resisted oxidation well, at least in the relatively short time it took to enjoy the gram.

Like plenty of fresh press, its scent and flavor were on the mild side with a soft OG minerality, though it struck the head like a gong. Mother’s Milk was especially welcome after grueling physical activity to mellow out the body and unfurl knots of upper back, neck, and shoulder tension.

In the cold cure camp, Candy Hearts joined the vaunted ranks of the Lemon Sour Diesel and Poisoned Apple with a homogenous badder texture and uplifting effect. Candy Hearts’ sugary grape terps did not sing quite as expressively as others, constituting a lightly sweet but not-so-distinct profile. However, its anxiety-free mood boost made for a solid daily driver that was easy to share while more special flavors remained in the headstash.

Sweet Nothings

As toothsome as Spiral Light’s inhalable treats are, her solventless edibles take it to the next level. Through a collaboration with Terp Strips, another female operator, Spiral’s rosin takes on new life in a series of all-natural fruit leather rollups that had me feeling as good as they tasted. Made with nothing but pureed fruit, grapeseed oil, and hash rosin, each 50mg strip provided a delicious and relatively healthy boost for hours. Of the three flavors I tried, the Peach Pineapple was my favorite, followed by Strawberry Pina Colada and Kiwi Pear Apple.

A pack of ten 25mg Nerds-crusted gummies, made independently by Spiral Light, was generously included as a gift. While these were just as effective at the same dosage as the Terp Strips, the additional sugar made it easy to lose track of how many went down the hatch. Still, with all the candy, fruit, and terps in the atmosphere, the sweetest thing about this Spiral Light Farm drop is supporting a talented and hardworking Fairy Globmother.
