Purple Truffle Cannabis Cultivar (Strain) Review
Hey what’s up everyone? I hope everyone has enjoyed the early Spring weather we’ve been experiencing recently and, hopefully, got to enjoy President’s day off (I didn’t lol). Today, I’m going back-to-back with Trufflez and bringing you the second installment of this review series. This will feature the Purple Trufflez which was included in the mini care pacakge I received a couple weeks back from Trufflez Boston. If you are looking for more background information I would encourage you to revisit the first paragraph of my previous review or simply go to their website online. Similar to the first review, there was no genetics provided on this cultivar, therefore, I could not speculate what this cultivar would be like ahead of time. However, after a fair experience with the Wok I was interested to see what the Purple Trufflez soul have in store. Let’s waste no more time and get into the facts! The Purple Trufflez came packaged in a die-cut Mylar that possessed the same matte material that the Wok did. I was a even more of a fan of this packaging as it was easier to open (as well as get the nugs out), the smooth texture of the material felt great in hand, and the the multi-shaded purple colorway appealed to the eye. The holographic backside of the bag was also a great touch as it came equipped with a “doggy-bone” shaped zipper that fully sealed the packaging upon removing. Finally, one feature about the packaging that served as the most unique was that it glowed in the dark. I included a photo that demonstrates this on the last two slides. As I’ve mentioned in the past I’m really curious to see how much this precise, die-cut packaging push up the overall price point. I think that in some cases, such as this, it makes the marketing look exceptionally cool and detailed, however, I know this material/custom design typically doesn’t run cheap. Nonetheless, the overall packaging/marketing here was on point as you typically find with Trufflez products. Proceeding to remove the seal from the packaging containing the Purple Trufflez, I was met with a similar cherry smell as the Wok with a little sweeter, doughier backend. This cultivar also possessed sweet notes of tropical citrus upon first impression which gave me strong implications that this could be a different pheno than that of the Wok. The z was also heavy on the nose at this stage. The appearance of them while looking into the bag was impressive under the light with forest green hues intertwining with lime green to violet ones giving it a vibrant color. The faded orange pistils appeared in certain spots on each bud while they all contained a modest trichrome coverage. Out of the bag, the buds looked ok but were a lot more fresh than the Wok. One complaint with this also as I noted in the first review was the condition. Although these buds were fresher they still were a little compressed coming out of the bag but not as bad as the Wok. Each one had a smooth, sandy surface that was a balance combination of soft and dense structure wise. When breaking into the buds, I felt as if a zestier blend of citrus and z were present. Additonally, pinier notes of floral gave this cultivar a gassy output on the nose. Cracking the buds gave way to a sticky, stemmy interior that left a pretty thick residue on my hands. This is the type of stuff that you needed wet wipes to get off. I felt a less sandier output on the interior than the Wok possessed which allowed you to break up into decent chunks by hand. Resulting in a decent yield, I noticed the zesty smell behind the z and fuel remained although, after a few seconds of breathing in, I began to realize this had a sugary, sweet smell down underneath. The dry pull on the joint gave off tropical notes of citrus, grapes, and candy with highly detectable Zkittles taste. When I sparked the Purple Trufflez in an Element paper, the initial inhales fed a dose of sweet, doughy terps that developed into a light soapy taste which allowed a blissful, yet rather odd, concoction to invade my taste buds. Compared to the Wok, the Purple Trufflez exhibited more traditional notes of z while the candy taste of this cultivar was as extremely detectable early on. On the way out, the exhales presented a strong after taste of spicy floral notes with a dry, soapy back end. Throughout the first quarter or so of the joint, the spiciness within the inhales increased the overall gassiness of each pull. The soapiness throw off by them increased as well putting out a sweaty candy taste that stuck to the top of my mouth. Additionally, there distinct grapefruit and guava terps that mingled beneath the all-around fruity taste this cultivar provided. Moving closer towards the halfway point in the sesh, the traditional z terps became clear as the creamy, candy taste received seemed to melt right on my tongue. Through the first half, the terps were super flavorful and it was evident there was either Zkittles or Runtz within the lineage of the Purple Trufflez. The burn was spectacular and, even though this cultivar managed to get oily through each pull, the joint seemed to go at a very balanced pace. A lighter gray that turned white during certain periods ensued along with a moderately drippy terp ring. Entering into the second half of the sesh, I still pulled in a blend of creamy terps met with that traditional z I experienced earlier. The candy terps on this cultivar produced continued to melt on my tongue like a tropical lozenger. The exhales appeared to carry a little more mustiness to them although the soapy taste on each follow through was enough to leave my gums percolating. Even as I got into the later stages in the sesh the soapy taste that intertwined beneath the thick creamy, candy terps remained strong down to the wire. I was a little more impressed by this cultivar in the later stages as I did not experience the same flavor loss as I did with the Wok. I thought the Purple Trufflez presented a unique terp profile as well as packed a punch which led to an all-around positive experience smoking this. The medicinal effects that ensued as result of smoking the Purple Trufflez hit fast with a decent amount of potency. I would say a little before the midway point in the sesh, I started to feel a steady head rush that made my thoughts increasingly foggy. In addition to that, this hit the body with a slow melting sensation that was on the crippling side. Providing excellent relief to my muscle and joints, this hit my upper body particularly well. Within the first half hour of effects, I felt nothing but happy thoughts coming ona although forming more complex ones was a little bit challenging. Over the next half and hour or so I completely went into orbit and felt rather tired as time went on. For me, this was a great cultivar to indulge in if I wanted a good night in on the couch. The best way to supplement that was with a game on TV or a movie to take my mind off things from the day that had occurred. This was also a great way to cap off a workout or a couple hours of hooping. When it was all said and done the effects last well over 2 hours and, even after napping, I could feel them a little bit upon waking up. Overall, I found the medicinal effects from the Purple Trufflez to be pretty damn good as they were both effective and durable. After having a chance to try the Purple Trufflez, this one stood out compared to the other two offerings. First off, I thought the appearance was better this time around. Despite being a bit compressed, the buds that made up the Purple Trufflez sample were a notch better than that of the Wok. On top of that, the nose on this cultivar presented a very similar nose to the Wok. I don’t think there’s any personal doubt that this batch of Purple Trufflez will appeal to those who love a good candy offering. Furthermore, the smoke matches the nose and gives off a good candy-gas variety. If you are a fan of rich creamy, soapy terps that hit with a bit of power then this will be right up your alley. Lastly, the medicinal effects received from the Purple Trufflez put the cherry on top. This is going to particularly favor those looking to get ripped after work or spend a night locked in on the couch. Personally, I was impressed by this offering but, subjectively, wouldn’t cough up $65 an eighth for it. Not saying it isn’t worth the tag but, with the addition the of marketing/packaging assumed in the total price, I cannot say that it would spark my interest enough to fork over the extra money. Especially since there is an upward trend of local grown candy-gas at a considerably lower price. However, if you are a consumer who takes into the consideration the marketing/packaging features and aligns them to the quality of the bud, the experience of the Purple Trufflez did exceed expectation and soared over the other two offerings. Once again, I want to thank Trufflez Boston (local rep for Trufflez) the opportunity for putting this in my hands and allowing my honest take on it. The service, as well as engagement, from him was proper from start to finish and I will follow up with the Faygo sometime next week.Check out more reviews by @toptierterpsma on Instagram!
