Strain Review: Japanese Melons by Heavy Loads x Buddy’s Bodega

With a majority of Heavyloads flowers smoking relatively well, and collaborating with local Cali powerhouse Buddy’s Bodega, I was feeling optimistic on trying their next flower Japanese Melons, having a similar bag design to their Japanese Peaches. Upon opening I instantly received a rush of a distinctive candy aroma, displaying notes of cherries and grapes, alongside a subtly citrus tainted Gelato gas, with uniquely sugary sweet undertones. The buds were of a medium density, having a combined foxtail and boulder structure, being a shade of almost white to light green with dark purple hues and guts, alongside rustic hydroponic hairs, and absolutely showered in trichomes. Upon inhaling, my palate was instantly overcome by a rush of notes translating from the smell. Delivering an anticipated infusion of sweet cherries and a gassy Gelato, with light citrus undertones. This familiar taste of candy was complemented by added notes of sweetened grapes, with subdued traits of eucalyptus. The sweetness described started to dissipate through combustion, with a lingering presence being retained on my tastebuds upon exhaling. The joint produced ash being a shade of light silver, alongside an oozing and dripping resinous oil ring, smoking predominantly smooth and tasting clean. To conclude, although I could not identify the taste of melon as suggested in the name, Japanese Melons still managed to tick most of the boxes, and with further dialing in required on perfecting its sweetness and retaining the flavour, this will get even better.
