Guava Gelato Cannabis Cultivar (Strain) Review
Hey what’s going on everyone? Well, we are officially halfway through the year and I figured we would get the 4th of July weekend started off right. This is another review I had collecting some dust in the pipeline before I was ready to get it out. When I received the Kush Mintz from Frew Tree I reviewed a month back, he also gave me another cultivar I hadn’t formally tried before. This particular cut of Guava Gelato, bred by Overgrown, was teased over a couple months during its cultivation by Frew Tree. When it was finally ready I knew it was time to get this long anticipated cultivar my honest analysis. Overgrown’s cut of Guava Gelato features a cross between Gelato 33 x Triangle Mints #23. When the word “Gelato” comes to mind I think a lot of people keep the word synonymous with fruity, candy, creamy, etc. However, the Guava Gelato will definitely throw you through a loop with the qualities it possesses. Let’s waste no more time and get into the facts! Same as with the Kush Mintz, Frew Tree packaged up the sample of Guava Gelato in a zip lock bag which was wrapped up neatly, and tucked, into a one-ounce mason jar with latch-lid. The jar had Frew Tree’s signature slap placed on top of the lid. Upon opening up the bag that contained the Guava Gelato I was initially met with sweet earth and subtle candy aromas. When I honed in closely on the smell I also picked up on tiny hints of citrus and pine. Ultimately, sweet and tangy candy is my short description for the rather complex nose on this Guava Gelato. I personally wasn’t blown away from the aesthetics by any means as the looks on it struck me as somewhat disoriented. Despite a hefty covering of triches on the surface of each nug, the rest of the appearance was made up of scattered pistils, lime green to darker green hues, and spottier patches of violet and purple. Not to say this was ugly by any stretch of the imagination but I know what some people are talking about when they say that Gelato cultivars can come out less picturesque than others. Nevertheless, the appearance did come out a lot better once place in the mag jar. The Guava Gelato consisted of dense, well put together structure that was more sticky than not. In turn, the snap was good when breaking the buds apart with the structure being about 20% fluffy so you’re not experiencing tendinitis when doing so. Once being broken apart is when I gained familiarity with a burnt rubber fuel smell being exhibited by the cultivar. This became a little sweeter once broken down, which I preferred doing so in the grinder. The dry pull on the joint gave off sweet melon terps which accompanied other subtle fruity notes with a soily fuel backend. When I sparked the Guava Gelato in an Organic RAW, I immediately sensed a spicy, floral-like kick within the first few pulls. To go along with this, I also notice gassy, but underwhelming taste of burning pine when letting in the initial inhales. On the way out, the aftertaste was, at first, sweet with a mild taste of melon candy, specifically honeydew. The sweet taste didn’t last long on the follow through as I soon became fixated with gassier notes of burnt rubber and spice on the exhale. Sooner than later this burnt rubber taste engulfed the total experience from about 1/4 to 1/2 way through the sesh. A tingly sensation of doughy terps probed my taste buds leaving me dry with cotton mouth. The pulls started to become extremely pressuresome around the halfway mark which resulted in a bit of coughing as well as a slight burning in my chest. Without a doubt this had to be one of the most powerful Gelato cultivars I’ve experienced to date. The way the Guava Gelato burned when smoking it was phenomenal going at a very even pace. As a result, a fat white ash ensued including a fairly large terp drip that made the joint sweat a little amongst its sidewalls. Later on into the sesh I caught a slight taste of z when letting out the smoke in some cases. This left those same melon candy terps experienced earlier on in the sesh, retaining that gassy edge too. Not to leave out the taste of citrus lime which was noticeable late in the sesh. All in all, I was highly impressed with the complexity in flavor concerning this cultivars terp profile. This led to an all around favorable smoke boasting cutting edge characteristics. If you think the enticement will end when the sesh does you are truly mistaken. The onset of medicinal effects went into full swing as soon as I experienced those gassier pulls of burnt rubber a short way into the sesh. Immediately my eyes starting to burn up as the coughing from some pulls formed a few sweat beads. Within 10-15 minutes, I felt a fast-paced heart beat begin to develop as a full body melting sensation formed too. This was not weak of heart by any means as I felt groggy and worn down the first 30 minutes into the high. All over, my joints and muscles felt loose and relaxed which highlighted the total experience. I had difficulties keeping my thoughts together although my overall mood became satisfied given the throbbing euphoria. It goes without saying that this was an inevitable couch-locker which was primarily enjoyed as a night cap. Additionally, the medicinal effects led to a slight increase in appetite. When it was all said and done the effects last nearly two hours leaving me with zero questioning as far as the potency of this cultivar. After having a chance to try to the Guava Gelato from Frew Tree I can understand now why he teased me with this one over the course of two months. Along with the LCG, I think this had to be either first or second most desirable samples I’ve tried from his stable. Although I won’t hype up the appearance, you can tell this one is going to hit as soon as you get that candy fuel aroma after cracking a bug open. If you are someone who desires a cutting edge terp profile that combines gas with a variety of rare candy/fruity flavors than you cannot go wrong with this. However, I would probably only recommend this to more experienced smokers/connoisseurs as this may be a little too intense for those who do not dabble daily. As far as the effects go get ready for a night on the couch. This will serve well for those who want to be put on their ass for a few hours. The effects will additionally be a good match for those experiencing any joint/muscle pain amongst other related illnesses. I wanted to thank Frew Tree for allowing me to get my hands on this and the Kush Mintz early and freshly chopped. I hope to see more big drops down the road for review.Check out more reviews by @toptierterpsma on Instagram! (www.instagram.com/toptierterpsma)
